Visiting Genoa: Things to Do and See

The maritime city of Genoa on the Italy Ligurian sea is the region’s capital. Genoa was European Capital of Culture in 2004 and in 2006 the elegantly charming historical center was nominated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you have a car, its only 35 km to Portofino, 100 km to Cinque Terre and 140 km to Milan. If you really wanted to you could cross the French border and visit Nice which is about 200 km away.

The main station Genova Stazione Piazza Pincipe makes train travel easy.

Slow trains are slow in Italy, the fast trains FrecciaBianca, FrecciaRossa or Italo are recommended.

Genoa to Milan is about 1 hr 34 min on the fast train and costs €25*
Genova to Florence is 2 hours 45 min on the fast train and costa €39*
