Italy Takes Second Place on the Global Stage of Wine Destinations

Italy, the land of rolling vineyards, ancient traditions, and delectable food, secures a well-deserved second place on the prestigious list of top destinations for wine lovers compiled by Ubuy, the international marketplace. While France takes the crown this year, Italy shines brightly with a composite score of 73.37, showcasing its prowess in the world of wine.

Italy’s impressive score stems from a potent combination of factors. The country boasts a vast expanse of vineyards, stretching over 719,000 hectares. This translates to significant wine production, contributing greatly to Italy’s position as a global leader in the industry. But the story doesn’t end there. Italians themselves are passionate consumers, with a per capita consumption rate of 40.3 liters annually!

Beyond the sheer volume, Italy offers a unique and diverse wine experience. Wine lovers can find a range of delectable offerings, from the bold and robust reds of Tuscany to the crisp and refreshing whites of Piedmont. The price point for a mid-range bottle sits comfortably at $7.62, making it an accessible pleasure for all. Keep in mind however that the mid-range price point largely takes into account domestic brands that are rarely exported, giving you all the more reason to plan your travel itinerary to Italy!

So, while France may edge out Italy for the top spot this year, Italy remains a haven for wine aficionados. The combination of vast production, passionate consumption, and a rich tapestry of regional specialties solidify Italy’s position as a world-class wine destination.

Spain, Germany and Portugal followed closely behind.
