Date: June 6 to September 15, 2024
Location: Via Machiavelli 13, Alessandria, Italy

Located on Via Machiavelli 13, the exhibition titled “Cose mai viste. Fotografie inedite” showcases a meticulously selected collection of around 60 unpublished photographs, predominantly focusing on the people Berengo Gardin encountered throughout his illustrious career. These images, spanning from 1954 to 2023, offer a unique glimpse into his travels across Italy and various countries, including France, Croatia, Hungary, Spain, Norway, Russia, China, Japan, the UK, and the USA.

Gianni Berengo Gardin, born in 1930, is celebrated for his ability to capture the essence of everyday life with profound empathy and respect. Despite his humble assertion that “it’s not how you photograph but what you photograph,” his work transcends mere documentation, offering a deep narrative quality that has earned him acclaim as a master of the craft.

The exhibition not only presents these unseen gems but also features a special section dedicated to photographs from 1994, taken during the historical reenactment of the Battle of Marengo. This series, compiled in the catalog “Gianni Berengo Gardin – Marengo, 1994,” includes texts by Napoleonic history expert Giulio Massobrio and will be unveiled at the opening event.

Organized by ASM Costruire Insieme and the City of Alessandria, with the support of the local tourism agency Alexala, the exhibition is part of the broader initiative “Alessandria and the Great Masters of Photography,” funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria. This initiative aims to bring high-caliber national and international exhibitions to the city, enhancing the local cultural landscape.

Luciano Mariano, president of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, expressed enthusiasm for partnering in this endeavor, noting its significance in commemorating a pivotal historical event and promoting Alessandria on an international stage.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness the unseen works of Gianni Berengo Gardin. The exhibition at the Sale d’Arte, Via Machiavelli 13, Alessandria, will be open from June 6 to September 15, 2024, promising to be a highlight of the cultural calendar in Alessandria this summer.
